Urban Agriculture Cooperative (UAC)

Urban Agriculture Cooperative began as a farmer’s market program arm of the non-profit Planting Seeds of Hope in 2014, led by Alexandra Payne and the team at SWAG Project Farm. UAC spun off as an official non-profit entity to offer all-around support for small urban growers and their programs to help raise resources for collective action in reducing food deserts. A specific, narrower focus emerged on developing farmer’s market solutions, food distribution, and the supply chain from grower to consumer.

After joining their extraordinary team as a community produce distributor in the Fall of 2023, a few others and I formed and created a smaller unit of designers within the organization dedicated to expanding UAC’s image by creating a multitude of helpful designs for their online market orders, delivery van, recipe flyers, and more. I have even extended our artistic reach through UAC’s many agricultural connections and piloted a design/marketing consulting freelancing business with two other associates for all of their local farmers and producers as well.

Stickers

Very much needed for all of the produce boxes that we send out every week to indicate if they carry fragile eggs or mushrooms, and of which variety, for us and the customer. We ultimately ended up utilizing different colored egg stickers to indicate different programs that we’re packing in the warehouse.

I also created origin stickers for any producers & farmers we dealt with who wanted to label their products to signify that they were locally sourced, called “Urban Grown” or “Newark Grown”. This became an interchangeable design that I would edit depending on where the supplier originated from, so later on, NJ Grown & even Paterson Grown were used to indicate the origin of a product or produce.

Custom Van Decal Wrap

Serena is the name of our delivery van that we use to travel all around New Jersey delivering veggie produce boxes to our many drop-off locations or picking up handmade goods from local producers, and she desperately needed a makeover. The design we made as a team for UAC allowed their brand to be more visible on the road by displaying all of their contact information, logo, and hand-drawn aesthetics of the cardboard boxes themselves. We transformed Serena from a white blank canvas to an illustrative icon.

Lastly, we created and included some guidelines and procedures to follow when operating the van for new members of the packing or delivery team.
